Is it possible I was born in 1677?

According to the Phantom Time Hypothesis the early Middle Ages, specifically 614-911 AD as they are recorded in history are a fabrication. it argues that those 297 years of falsified history were achieved through the alteration, misrepresentation and forgery of documentary and physical evidence. So if this theory were true, instead of it being the year 2010, our calendar is off by 297 years and it’s actually 1713. That would mean I was born in 1677. Sweet.

While developers of the Phantom Time Hypothesis have a lot of supporting evidence, there are also plenty of convincing arguments against this hypothesis as well. Here is the full hypothesis on the University of Cambridge Website if you are interested in learning why they believe its possible to have 200 years of fake history:

Nice afternoon at the park

Late yesterday afternoon Erin and I took the girls to a really nice park. The plan was that Ella could practice riding her new Hello Kitty bike on the walking path that circles the park. It was so much fun. Ella was a riot, and was also an impressive little bike rider! I can not begin to describe how adorable she was jumping off some landscaping rocks and saying goofy things while pointing at us and raising her eyebrows up and down in her trademark stare. Then later she noticed these huge hills of grass and gave up her bike to run up the hill. She ran up the hill, at least 100 yards from us and sat at the very top of it. Then without any prompting she began rolling down the hill as far as she could. It was truly a great feeling seeing her play and enjoy life like that.

Dinner with Schmucks, Machete, and The Town

Dinner with Schmucks

I saw this movie months ago, but just wasn’t sure what to say about it. It was just so, so. I would be curious to see the original French film this was based on, I am guessing it would be a different humor all together. I had high expectations and it did not meet those, but I belly laughed a few times. Hard not to at least snicker with comedic stalwarts Steve Carell, Jemaine Clement and Zach Galifianakis providing the funny.

Machete

Wow, what can I say about this wonderfully awful film. It takes the term “so bad its good” to a whole new level. Finding a film to star Danny Trejo is not easy, but I can’t imagine anyone else as Machete. Director Robert Rodriguez delivers ’70s campy craziness with this film based off a spoof trailer shown before Rodriguez’ and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 film Grindhouse.

The Town

I actually saw this movie under false pretenses, I thought it was based on a Dennis Lehane book, the author that wrote the novels that turned into Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and Shutter Island. But it turned out to to be a Chuck Hogan book instead – never heard of him. This movie did not have the depth of those other films and was a pretty straight forward and predictable heist film. I am no Ben Affleck fan, but he did not ruin this movie. Ben is comfortable in roles where he plays a Boston punk. I was also impressed to see the credits and learn he directed the film, I had totally forgotten that he had directed Gone Baby Gone, which was a really good film. The Town, which should have been titled Charlestown or Townies, was billed as Heat meets The Departed. Well, it’s not as good as either of those films, but much closer in style/story to Heat than the more complicated Departed. Overall it was a decent heist film, good enough to even keep Erin’s attention, which is no small task for a film featuring lots of semi-automatic machine gun fire.

Ever heard of The Avett Brothers?

Neither had I, until I saw this video today (it’s from Banaroo):

Here is a quick way to hear some more of their songs:

James Franco is a busy and bizarre man

I just read a crazy article about James Franco, the actor, artist, student, etc.

Here is the “busy” part, I couldn’t believe his ridiculous academic ambitions while still working on both tv and movies:

As soon as Franco finished at UCLA (graduating in just 2 years), he moved to New York and enrolled in four of graduate schools: NYU for filmmaking, Columbia for fiction writing, Brooklyn College for fiction writing, and—just for good measure—a low-residency poetry program at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina. This fall, at 32, before he’s even done with all of these, he’ll be starting at Yale, for a Ph.D. in English, and also at the Rhode Island School of Design. …

Franco says all of his pursuits are possible, at least in part, because he’s cut down on his acting, but he’s still doing plenty of that. In the next year or so, he’ll be appearing in the films Eat, Pray, Love (as Julia Roberts’ boyfriend), Howl (as Allen Ginsberg), 127 Hours (as the one-armed hiker), Your Highness (a medieval comedy), William Vincent (an indie film by one of his NYU professors), Maladies (put out by his own production company), and Rise of the Apes (a prequel to Planet of the Apes). And of course there’s his epically weird stint on General Hospital—the crown jewel in the current science project of his career.

Stranger yet, is the “bizarre” part, some of his art (and behavior) described in this article is really out there.

I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix

After a year of bizarre behavior following his retirement from moviemaking, the long-rumored film “I’m Sill Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix” is premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow. I am dying to hear the reviews of Casey Affleck’s directorial debut. Here is a trailer:

Maybe we will finally have the answer if this was all a put-on in service of this film or if Phoenix is really this whacked out. From what I hear the movie contains some really out there and graphic moments, that will make his Letterman appearance seem like model behavior.

Dancing at the Movies

Besides the overuse of racy Jamie Lee Curtis clips, I thought this was a really fun compilation of movie dance scenes.
